Seems to me there are lots of reasons but I suspect the most common is that wheeled luggage take the train out of traveling. So that as you travel the wheels take the strain and not your knees and back.

Sure if you’re young and fit, you can lug a heavy pack without too much trouble, though I did notice that the marines who can carry really heavy packs, were using wheeled luggage as they came out of the airport the other dat.

Well, if you have a lot of stairs to get by, or your traveling though an area with rough surfaces then trying to pull wheeled luggage isn’t going to be easy.

But even then you are just where you started with non-wheeled luggage because you’d have ad to carry that anyway, the difference is that as soon as the ground levels off you can pop your luggage down on the floor and glide off. If you’re really traveling in a rough area then I ‘d recommend getting yourself a wheeled back pack because they have all of the advantages of wheeled luggage.
